Baglung Village

 

Capital of the District Daulagiri – 200.000 inhabitants. Many schools and local markets. The administrative buildings of the region are located in Baglung.

 

Baglung Kalika: The temple is situated between the rivers Kalika and Kate. The temple is located in a forest, and there can be admired old trees as it is forbidden to cut them down. The temple Kalika is built in a typical Nepalese style (Pegoda). Lots of sacrifices took place in this temple. Lots of festivals take place here during April for Dashan. We can pass here many hours to contemplate the landscapes and the architecture of the temple.

 

From the centre of Baglung (bus station) it takes about 30 minutes to get to the temple. It is also possible to take a rick-shaw or a taxi (150 Rs)

 

Baglung village is located in the midhills of Nepal, say at a distance of 275 km from the west of Kathmandu. Baglung village is the zonal headquarters of the Dhawalagiri zone and district headquarters of the Baglung district. This village is also popularly referred to as the Baglung Bazar and is located on the plateau overlooking the valley of the Kali Gandaki. It can be also considered as a quaint trading town. Of late, this village is frequently visited by the tourists who are interested to trek to Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, Dhorpatan and Dolpo. Baglung is well connected to Kusma Bazar of Parbat and Beni Bazar of Myagdi to the north.

 

A winding but well paved highway connects the town with Pokhara, seventy two km to the east. However, highways to connect Mustang, Jomsom, Tibet to the north, Rukum via Burtibang and Dhorpatan to the west and Sera Bazar via airport are still under construction.

 

Baglung airport is located at a distance of twelve kilometers to the south of Baglung village. This was the sole connection to the outer world prior to the completion of the highway. Just above the airport, you will find the village of the Rokas and on top of the mountains lays the popular shrine of Lord Bhairav. If you reach the top then you are sure to find the breathtaking view of the Himalayas as well as the Kusma Bazaar. This village has experienced a rapid expansion immediately after the successful completion of the Pokhara-Baglung Highway in the middle of the 1990s. Of late, you will find a summer road which connects Baglung to Chaura.

Tengboche Monastery is the biggest Buddhist monastery in the Khumbu area. It was rebuilt recently after spending a huge amount. It was damaged by fire and hence needed a repair.
