Transfert to Doha Oryx

Doha is the name of the Qatar capital and also of its airport. It is a hub which is gaining importance for the connections between Europe and Asia. If flying to Nepal, chances are high that you’ll transit in Doha. Here are some important informations for travelers coming to Qatar.

There are normally 3 daily flights from Doha (DOH), the capital of Qatar and Katmandu, the Nepalese capital. The services offered by Qatar Airways are excellent. Nevertheless, it has to be known that the hand luggage cannot exceed 7-8 kilograms. For any weight more, you will be asked to check the luggage in. For travelers with STAND-BY tickets, this option can be a difficult one. In any case, losing the luggage happens all the time. Do not put any essential stuff in the luggage you are checking.

As you will board the Qatar Airways flight, you will receive a yellow envelope to keep your Boarding Pass. It means you are in transit and because of this you won’t need to get your luggage in Doha, which will be automatically sent to Nepal. If you have any problems with your transfer, you can contact the transfer responsible at the second floor (after the security check-point) near Gate 10. Also note that the travelers with a ZED price (Stand By – company employee) can go directly to the transfer responsible without getting the luggage. This prevents to go through the Qatari controls and their bureaucracy (visa, etc.)

If you are travelling with your mobile phone / laptop, note that the Doha airport has a free of charge WI-FI network. Nevertheless, make sure you have enough battery left, because the power outlets are different from the ones found in France or Nepal.

With 3 flights a day, you should not have any problem getting to Katmandou. The flight takes about 5 hours between the Qatari capital and the Nepalese one. During the 2011 high season, the Doha – Katmandou flight offers a hot meal service after 1 hour after taking off, and also a sandwich one hour before landing.

Also note the famous Oryx Lounge. It’s a very nice place of resting where you can stay if you have to wait a few hours for transit. They serve aperitifs, drinks, and they also have internet. A nice flight to Doha! For 40 US, you can relax at the airport in Doha and avoid the crowded waiting area of the airport.
