Internal flight in Nepal

 

Nepal is a pretty small country if we compare to Canada, UK or Australia. But being in the mountains, the road transportation are usually very long and travelling from on point to another can last a long time. For example, the distance between Katmandu and Pokhara is about 200 km and the travel by bus last about 7 hours and can be far longer if there is an accident on the road. For this reason, many tourists will choose the option of taking the plane to reach other part of Nepal. This article is focused on giving information about all possibilities of travelling by plane inside Nepal. Most of the flight starts or go to Kathmandu or Pokhara. There are a few airlines offering internal flights in Nepal.

 

Buddha Airlines flight to these destination of Nepal: from Kathmandu you may get a flight to Janakpur, Bhadrapur, Bhairahawa, Nepalgunj, Biratnagar, Simara, Dhangadhi, Bharatpur and Pokhara. Buddha airlines also offers a one hour flight to Everest

 

Guna airlines also offers flight from Katmandu: you may reach Pokhara with a flight of 30 minutes, Biratnagar, Simara, and also mountain flight.

 

Yeti airlines is the airlines that offers the most internal routes in Nepal. From Kathmandu, you can easily reach these following destinations inside Nepal: Bhadrapur, Bhairahawa, Nepalgunj, Biratnagar, Simara, Dhangadhi, Lukla, Taplegunj, Phaplu, Rumjatar, Lamdhanda, Bharatpur, Meghauly and Pokhara

Domestic terminal at Tribhuvan airport: The domestic terminal is small and you need to find the stand of the company you're flying with. About an hour before the departure, some staff will invite you to get your boarding pass and living your luggage. Keep in mind that the plande is usually very small and only small hand luggage are allowed. Any other will be kept in the luggage suit. At the time of writing (july 2010) the tax for domestic flight was 169.50 nepalese rupees and you had to pay to Nabil Bank counter before getting your boarding pass at the stand of your airline. You can pass the control to end up in the waiting room.

 

The waiting room of the domestic terminal is very chaotic and if it would not be that small, it would be a real mess to find out where to go. While waiting your flight, you have to be carefull when waiting for your internal flight. There are 2 gates that finally end up at the same place. At the time of departure, some staff of the airlines company will call with a very big accent the flight number and the destination. Be aware of your flight number and the suppose time of your flight. Once they call your flight number, go at the gate where you will have a very light inspection after showing your boarding pass. You will enter in a little bus that will bring all the passenger to the airplane.
