Flights inside Nepal

 

 

The domestic airline network of Nepal includes some of the most spectacular and remote airstrips in the world (and the most dangerous - Lukla). However, approaches to these airstrips are a challenging job. Most are located on mountain sides engulfed by high peaks. Hence, if there are high winds or clouds then the pilot finds it difficult to land. It’s the case in high mountain such as Lukla or Jomson.

 

There are as many as forty four airports in the country. Almost all of the significant towns are served by air. The airplanes flying in Nepal are controlled by experienced and skilled hands. Some of the significant domestic airlines include-

 

Nepal Airlines - Buddha Air - Yeti Airlines

Cosmic Air - Gurkha Air - Agni Air

Guna Airlines

The domestic flights in Nepal are often delayed or cancelled due to technical problems or adverse weather conditions. But then, of late a number of private companies have also come up who provide better airline service and are considered to be reliable when compared with the government owned airlines.

During the summer, i.e. from June till September, the airlines don’t operate flight because of the clouds and heavy rain. However, monsoons come to an end during the mid September and the weather is pretty clear. This is the chief time when the trekking season stands. At this hour, you will find both groups as well as individual trekkers flying to those airstrips for trekking purpose.

 

In addition to those mentioned above, there are a couple of private airline company that operates domestic flight in Nepal.  These include-

These flights run between six to nine daily. You need to book your tickets well in advance if you want to visit any of these places. You can make the payment in cash or through credit card.
