We DO NOT RECOMMEND this guesthouse! Even if it has a long reputation, its mercantile character makes from this an accommodation place which only looks for profit! Lots of family private places will be happy to receive you in hotels of the same comfort and at half price compared to this guesthouse!

This is one of the first established hotels from the Nepalese capital and it has become a Nepalese institution. On the other hand, its reputation is highly overrated because many visitors were disappointed by their stay in this guesthouse.

Here is some information about the Katmandu Guesthouse. This is located in the heart of Thamel. The room categories and difference between them is not always enormous. To quote some opinions: “Super Deluxe for 110$, the Guesthouse says it offers rooms for 2$ but it seems they have only one”. Other problem reported by the guests is that rooms are oversold. A traveler reported he has reserved a room 3 weeks in advance. When he arrived, all the rooms were taken. He was sent to other place where he was asked 30$ for a dirty room. Then, he decided to search for another hotel and he found a nice one (Hotel Mandap – www.hotelmandap.com) for 12$ a room.

The Katmandu Guesthouse has private rooms, double or triple ones. Please note that the prices will rise by 10% for the service and by 13% due to tax (VAT).
