What is the type of main currency of Nepal.  The currency of Nepal is the Nepalese rupee, Rupee had been the official currency of Nepal since 1932. ATM in Nepal: In Kathmandu no problems. You'll have easy access to some cash to banks. In Pokhara too, no problems. You will have the full Nepalese rupees if you leave for a trek in the high mountains. Banks are non-existent and except in rare places, ATMs as well. Traveler's checks and credit cards in Nepal: You can easily pay with credit card in most hotels in the Nepalese capital and other major urban centers. Outside the major cities, credit cards no longer very useful.
