Getting in Katmandu

The airport of Katmandu is very small and you will easily find your way. No matter the flight company, the very particular geographic position of the Nepalese capital sometimes obliges the pilots to refuel in Dhaka (in case of fog over the Nepalese capital).

This is rare, but it can happen. In this case, your flight will take 3 hours more (1h15 the way to Dhaka / back and 30 minutes the refuel).

As you get off from the plane, try to get in front of the long waiting queue for getting the Nepalese visa. To be ready to fulfill the entry formalities to Nepal, make sure you have a pen and you can fill in the papers from the plane. Make sure that you have a photo – passport format with you, which will be attached to the papers. Then, it will be enough to say to the visa responsible the number of days or weeks that you want to stay. Until September 2011, the price to pay is the following:

2 weeks visa = 25 US

1 month visa = 40 US

90 days visa = 100 US

If you want to make sure you get through formalities very fast, you should have with you the exact change in US dollars and try to be one of the first in the queue when you arrive. Have your passport photo with you, so it can be ready when you arrive! Don’t forget to have with you other 3 passport photos, for the trekking permits, if you plan to do this activity.
