Transportation to Nepal

The flights for Nepal are very long and tiring if you leave from Canada. The connections are numerous, the fight is expensive (about 1500$) if we compare it to the other travel expenses.

It must also be known that the hour delay is very important to be taken into account (9h45 from Quebec) and that by leaving, for example, on the 2^nd of April, 2011, you will get there on the 4^th of April (of the same year, anyway!). It’s a usual thing for the travelers from Quebec to make their final flight to Katmandou (KTM) with a plane from Qatar (Doha – DOH). As no visa is necessary if you only transit through Doha, the flight through Qatar becomes a very interesting option (more interesting than the one which implies going via Delhi). During the summer of 2011, the Qatar Airways company will offer two weekly flights from Trudeau (YUL). This 15-hour flight will offer you the change to decrease the number of transfers. From Qatar, the Qatar Airways company offers from 2 to 3 direct flights to the airports of Tribhuwan in Kathmandu, on a daily basis. Moreover, an extra flight of Royal Nepal Airlines is available. The latest flight takes about 5 hours.

Most of the voyages organized by Canadian travel agencies, as Club Adventure, never include in their package the price of the plane ticket. Thus, for a package of 3000$ for 3 weeks, you also have to add the visa price (40$ - can be bought in Kathmandu, a one month visa) and about 1500$ for the plane ticket + 50$-150$ for your local guide. It is also possible to get to Nepal by passing through Bangkok in Thailand. Indeed, Thai Airways offers a daily flight to the Tribhuvan airport. In this case, like above, no visa is required for Thailand because you will not have to get through customs.
