Travel budget prices Budget in Nepal
The budget of your Nepal travel depends on the hotels that you choose, of the activities you want to do, but also on choosing a travel agency or not. These are the prices that you can expect to pay. Considering every one of them, you can decide the type of activities and travels you want to do in Nepal.
Generally speaking, the prices are higher in Nepal comparing to India. Indeed, it is possible to eat for 30 eurocents in India, but in Nepal, it will be difficult to find something to eat for less than 100 Roupies (1 euro). The prices are anyway way cheaper than in the European countries or USA.
Plane ticket: Leaving from Europe in a flight with Qatar Airways, transiting in Delhi – you can expect a price of 800-1000 Euros. If you leave from Canada, the price would be about 1500 Canadian $. Please note that since the summer of 2011, Qatar Airways offers two flights per week between Montreal (YUL) and Doha (DOH).
Hotels in Kathmandu and in Nepal: Considering your budget and capacity to adapt, you can find a place where to stay for about 400-600 Roupies / night. If cleanliness is a primordial aspect for you and you are disgusted sleeping with bugs, you will be able to find a hotel for 10-15 Euros without too many problems. There is also a category of luxury hotels where the prices are higher, and they are close to the European standards. In this case, you should pay about 30-60$ for a room.
Price of a local restaurant: The prices in local restaurants are way cheaper than in famous ones. You will be able to eat a dish as the Dal Bhat or MOMO for less than 2 Euros (200 Roupies). It’s easy to also spend 2000 Roupies for an expensive dish, anyway, in a chic restaurant.
Lodges during the trek: The price for accommodation in the mountains is usually 100 Roupies. The price is really low, but it is important to eat in the hotel. A base dish without alcoholic drinks can cost 250 Roupies (2.5 Euros). If you are alone, without a guide or carrier, you can calculate about 8-15 Euros per day. Do not forget to obtain your trekking permit and your entry ticket to the reservation of Annapurna (can be easily obtained in Dameside or Pokhara).
Price for a carrier: The price for a carrier for a day should be about 10 Euros. If you travel to Nepal by using a travel agency, they will charge more for a carrier, and it could cost you between 15 and 20 Euros per day. If you don’t feel the need to have a carrier, please note it is really easy to find one on the road. Your guide should facilitate you this task and you should be able to pay him directly.
Price for a guide: If you are using a travel agency, it will organize you all your holiday, so also the guide. In other words, you will probably not know how much the guide will be paid. We can estimate this to 10-15$ per day. This low salary is nevertheless compensated by the tips he gets during your voyage. It is a custom to give him a 10% price of your trip. This percentage can get higher if you appreciate your holiday along him. So, after 3 weeks, you could give him 100-150$ if you are alone, or 30-50$ each one of you, if you are in a group. This makes a big difference, especially in some periods of the year like the monsoon (when the guides do not travel for several weeks – maybe even 2-4 months).
Price for 2 nights / 3 days in Chitwan. It’s a typical weekend in this famous national park situated in the South of the country. The usual price goes between 70-90 $ for a single person.
