Everest Base Camp

A quick flight from Kathmandu lands you in Lukla, the starting point of the trek. From Lukla to Namche Bazaar, the most popular stop figuring in all EBC treks, is a training walk of 2 days. Namche Bazaar is a bustling town centered around the tourist trade, with plenty of hotels, restaurants and equipment outfitters. It is a good idea to spend at least a day or two in Namche to acclimatize to the altitude.

The Tengboche Monastery is another popular stop in the EBC trek, partly because it looks so imposing in its solitude with the backdrop of Ama Dablam. From the monastery, the major stop points are Gorak Shep, the last settlement before reaching the base camp and Kala Patthar (Black Rock), famous for its view point to gaze at Everest.

Culturaly, the trek around the Annapurna is far more interesting. But the Everest is still the most famous.
