Fauna of Nepal

 

Nepal can be rightly termed as a mountainous country known for its rich flora and fauna. Fauna of Nepal is pretty varied and includes innumerable species of birds and animals that are found in the country. What is more interesting is that the greater portion of the country is included in the Himalayan range and therefore the wildlife and vegetation corresponds with that of the natural settings. There are innumerable birds and animals that are typical to this country. What is intended out here is that you wont find these animals and birds in other areas of the world.

 

The fauna is Nepal is found in the midst of the natural flora of the striking mountain country. The tropical forest of Nepal includes the broad flat valleys or Duns as well as the Terai plains. This forest is a home to innumerable wildlife species.

 

Some of the well known fauna of this area include-

wild buffalo

various species of deer

leopard

rhinoceros

hog deer

crocodile

swamp deer

Gangetic dolphin and much more

 

To be more specific, this tropical zone (Chitwan National Park) of Nepal is the richest region of wildlife with buffaloes, gaurs, four species of deer, leopards, tigers, as well as other animals found in the valley grasslands. In addition to this, you will also find here dual species of crocodile and not to mention the genetitc dolphin. The principal birds out here are-

 

1-. peacock

2-. jungle fowl a

3-. black partridge

4-. migratory duck

5-. geese swarm

 

the subtropical mixed evergreen forest don’t have a varied species of wildlife or it can be rightly said that this zone is poor in wildlife. However, you will find here a couple spectacular species of birds. The sub alpine and the alpine are the coldest region in the country. The very few animals that you may find out here include-

Himalayan marmot

snow leopard

wild yak

Tibetan sheep

mouse hare

tahr

musk deer

 

 

some of the mammals that are widely distributed out here include-

 

wild boar

barking deer

Serow

ghoral

bears

The temperate evergreen forest is a host to-

 

Himalayan bear

Serow

Ghoral

barking deer

wildboar

 

On rare occasions you may also find the Himalayan tahr on the rocky and steep faces just above 2400 m. Red panda is one of the interesting mammals that you will find out here.

 

The mammalian faun is scanty in the sub alpine and alpine zone. Some of the mammalian species that you will find here include-

 

Himalayan marmots

mouse hare

Tahr

musk deer

snow leopard

 

On very rare occasions you may also find blue sheep out here. In earlier times, the great Tibetan sheep and the wild Yak were sighted in this area. it is believed that some of them may also be surviving at the Humla and Dolpa areas.
